What device does Mote work on?
Mote is available on iPhone, running iOS 17 or later.
Do I need an account to use Mote?
No. Mote doesn't use accounts or sign-in — everything you do stays on your device, right from the first screen.
Is Mote free?
Mote is a paid app with a 7-day free trial. There's no free tier — every feature is included from the start of your trial, nothing held back for later.
What happens to my data if I switch phones?
If you have iCloud Backup turned on for your device, Mote's data is included automatically in your regular device backup — no separate setup needed. You can also manually export a backup file and import it on your new device any time from Profile → Backup.

How does Mote decide which tasks to show me?
Mote asks about your energy pattern — when you're usually up for more, and when you're not — and matches tasks to that. It's a real, editable setting in Profile, not a one-time onboarding question. You can also view everything at once or one task at a time, and switch between them anytime.
What is "Mote"?
Mote is the quiet companion built into the app — a small character that notices your days and reacts to them: a line about what it noticed, sometimes a small XP gift, never a reminder or a nag. It's on by default and can be turned off anytime in Profile.
What does "did some of it" mean?
It's a real, equal option next to "done" — because partial progress is still progress. It counts the same XP-wise as finishing outright. That's not a loophole — it's the whole idea behind how Mote tracks things.
What widgets does Mote have?
A Today widget (your tasks and level), an XP/level widget, a badges widget, and widgets for steps and gym sessions if you've turned those on. Pin and unpin any of them from your home screen.
Does Mote track my steps and workouts?
Only if you turn it on — both are optional and off by default. Step tracking reads from Apple Health; gym session logging writes your workouts to Apple Health so they show up alongside your other health data.
Can I scan a handwritten list instead of typing tasks?
Yes — the scan-a-list feature photographs a handwritten list and reads it on your device. The photo is processed entirely on-device and never uploaded or stored anywhere.
Do themes and colors unlock over time?
Yes. You start with a theme and unlock more as you level up — including a dedicated Night theme that also follows your system's dark mode automatically.

Is there a free trial?
Yes — every plan includes a 7-day free trial before you're charged anything.
What's the difference between monthly and annual?
Nothing feature-wise — both unlock the entire app. Annual just works out cheaper per month (~$4.17/mo vs. $7.99/mo billed monthly).
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, anytime through your App Store subscription settings. You'll keep access until the end of your current billing period.
Will I be charged as soon as my trial starts?
No — you're only charged when the 7-day trial ends, and you'll get a reminder before that happens. Cancel before then and you're never charged.
